Every year, millions of people make New Year’s resolutions, hoping to spark positive change. The recurring themes each year include a more active approach to health and fitness, improved finances, and learning new things for personal and professional development. Chances are, more than a couple of the top 10 most common resolutions will look familiar to you:
  1. Exercise more
  2. Lose weight

  5. Live life to the fullest
  6. Save more money / spend less money
  7. Quit smoking

What's Your New Year's Resolution?

Happy New Year! Have you decided on a New Year's Resolution? My son says that you shouldn't use the New Year as a way to motivate yourself, you should use YOU to motivate yourself! If you haven't guessed, he's a self-starter, but the rest of us need to start somewhere, so why not with the New Year?

If you're trying to determine a good resolution, there are some great ones listed at Health.com in Alyssa Sparacino's article Top Ten Healthiest New Year's Resolutions. I need to work on staying in touch. Here's what Ms.Sparacino says regarding that:

Feel like old friends (or family) have fallen by the wayside? It’s good for your health to reconnect with them. Research suggests people with strong social ties live longer than those who don’t.

In fact, a lack of social bonds can damage your health as much as alcohol abuse and smoking, and even more than obesity and lack of exercise, a 2010 study in the journal PLoS Medicine suggests.

In a technology-fixated era, it’s never been easier to stay in touch—or rejuvenate your relationship—with friends and family, so fire up Facebook and follow up with in-person visits.

Sounds like great advice! Have you decided on a New Year's Resolution yet?

Thanks for visiting and have a great week!

The Wednesday Discussion: Have You Made a New Year's Resolution?

"A New Year's resolution is something that goes in one year and out the other." Unknown

Yesterday someone asked if I'd made a New Year's resolution. I had not for this year, but I have in previous years. I'd usually remember those past resolutions for about a month, then fall back into my old routine.

After being asked that question yesterday, I started thinking about what I could do to help improve my writing.

Procrastination is an issue I struggle with, and I could probably get a lot more done if I didn't.  A writer mentioned in an article I read recently that to improve your craft, you should read one book a week in your preferred genre.

All writers love to read and usually have a stack of books waiting to be read. Because of time wasting habits, I have a hard time making it through one in a week's time. So I'll use my time more wisely to work on that.

There's my New Year's resolution, and I plan to stick with it! What's yours? And please share any tips that can help the procrastinators among us save time!
