Recipe Friday: Scary Movie Night Pizza

"Don't mix this movie with pizza." From the movie Grim (1995)

Halloween is Sunday, so scary movies will be shown all weekend long. Of course, if you don't like what's on TV, you can rent your own selection of DVDs--and then enjoy with a pizza!

If you could design your own scary movie marathon, what would it include? I love old movies, so here are a few for my list:
  • Arsenic and Old Lace (1944)
  • The Bad Seed (1956)
  • Psycho (1960)
  • The Cat People (1942 version)
  • Island of Dr. Moreaux (1933 version)
My husband prefers more modern movies. Here are some of his favorites:
  • Cloverfield (2008)
  • Paranormal Activity (2007)
  • The Sixth Sense (1999)
  • Signs (2002)
  • The Others (2001)
  • Now that we've got our movies lined up, time for pizza! Here's an easy recipe that's cheaper than delivery and uses no gas for pickup! The dough is adapted from a pizza recipe found in I'm in the Mood For Food: In the Kitchen with Garfield, by Jim Davis and Barbara Albright.

Scary Movie Night Pizza

1 package (1/4 ounce) active dry yeast
1 cup luke warm water
1 T olive oil
1 T sugar
1 t salt
2 1/2 to 3 cups all purpose flour
1 14 oz. can pizza sauce (I use Contidina)
5 cups shredded mozzarella cheese
assorted toppings of choice (pepperoni, onions, peppers, ham, etc.)

Pour water in a large bowl. Sprinkle yeast over water, then stir to dissolve. Stir in oil, sugar and salt. Add flour gradually to form a stiff dough. Place dough on lightly floured surface. Lightly flour hands and knead dough until it's smooth and elastic. Place dough in an oiled bowl. Cover and let rise in a warm place until doubled in bulk (about 35-45 minutes).

Preheat oven to 425 degrees. Lightly spray two pizza pans or baking dishes with cooking spray. Divide dough in half. On lightly floured surface, roll out two 12 inch rounds. Place each round on baking sheet or pizza pans. Spread each with pizza sauce, sprinkle with assorted toppings, then top with cheese. Bake 12-15 minutes, or until cheese is melted and crust is lightly browned. Makes 6-8 servings.

What are some of your favorite scary movies, and do you prefer pick-up, delivery, or pizza made from scratch?

Mmmm, pizza....

I'd also recommend the original version of The Haunting.

I've never seen all of The Haunting, but I want to. What I have seen is very creepy and unsettling!

We picked up our scary movies last night! We got A Nightmare on Elm Street, The Crazies and some other scary movie I can't remember the name of (my mom picked that one)

Thanks for all the recommendations though!

Happy Halloween

Hi, Melissa! Hope you can try the pizza. It's really good--my kids even like it (even though it's not take out).

Sounds like you've got some scary stuff to watch:). Have fun, and Happy Halloween!

I'll read paranormal, which has scary elements but I can't watch scary movies. I'm a scaredy-cat, so no horror movies for me!

Hi, Theresa!

Love your Halloween Haunting Blogfest:). I'm a scaredy cat too, which is probably why I like the older scary movies that leave more to the imagination. If something's too scary, I don't sleep well.

I saw Children of the Corn when I was about 13...I haven't seen it since. I'm still terrified of it! Two years ago we moved to Iowa. They grown a LOT of corn here. I get creeped out everytime I think about my car breaking down near a field...

I hope you had fun watching scary movies and eating homemade pizza. :)

@Karen: Hi, Karen! Thanks for stopping by!

@Sharon: Hi, Sharon! Never seen Children of the Corn. Sounds a little too creepy for me:). Just enjoy Iowa's corn and don't think about the movie!

@Joanna: Hi, Joanna! Try some older scary movies; they leave more to the imagination and won't scare you quite as badly!

Homemade pizza is the BEST! :D

I don't really watch scary movies . . . I usually end up flipping all the lights on and staying close to the cat. :P

Thanks so much for following my blog!

Thanks for dropping by my my romancing blog and for hooking up!

The pizza recipe sounds great, shall pass it to hubby - he's ace at making pizza: the only thing he can cook that tastes right! ;)

Ps, re rejection post: be philosophical about literary rejection is the best approach. Whatever will be will be!

Arsenic and Old Lace! Sixth Sense! You guys have some great taste in movies. A lot of those are my favorites (the horror stuff isn't for me).

It's great to "meet" you, Maria!

@Golden Eagle: Thanks for visiting! If I watch something too scary, and my husband's out of town, I sleep with the lights on!

@Francine:Hope you and hubby enjoy the pizza! And I agree re rejection: que sara sara!

@Jackee: Nice to meet you too! I can't take "real" horror. The more left to the imagination, the better!

I was looking for Arsenic and Old Lace!!! Psycho is on now and I've only seen Bad Seed once. I'm glad to find someone else who loves these old movies. My husband, too, prefers modern movies.

Thanks for stopping by my poetry blog. Happy Halloween!

@Roland: Thanks for that great movie line up! I've never seen Sleepy Hollow, but if it's got Johnny Depp in it, I know it's good!

@The Words Crafter: Thanks for your comment! I actually bought Arsenic and Old Lace on video years ago! Couldn't get my husband to sit through the whole thing!
